I never felt closer to my American heritage (except for maybe during the Olympics this winter) than when Obama came to Prague in April 2010.
How odd, this visit, falling between the bombs in the Moscow Metro of Lubyanka and the death of the Polish President, Lech Kaczynski, before the Iceland volcano eruptions, spraying ash into the aerospace closing down European airspace.
Our freedom and safety does indeed rest on precarious energies. Obama’s speech was a moving reiteration of the shared struggles for independence and freedom of the American people hundreds of years ago and the Czechs during communism.

It was a graceful smoothing over of the past, looking forward to an idyllic future as we walk hand in hand into the glorious capitalistic enterprise of the new world order.
Our friendship with our Russian mirror image across the globe does not rest on the political meeting between two men in well constructed media positions in government, but rather on shared interests in quality of life be it economic or environmental.
